When making a booking on our website, we indicate how names should be entered. Name corrections are sometimes required, but these are subject to very strict limitations and (high) costs, as determined by the airline. In some cases, name corrections are not allowed at all by the airline.
Airlines require the name as shown in the Machine Readable Zone (MRZ barcode) of your passport or travel document. See the example of the MRZ barcode with red outline below:

*The Machine Readable Zone is displayed as P < COUNTRYCODE LASTNAME << FIRSTNAME < ADDITIONAL < NAMES. Only the last name and first name fields are required on the ticket in order to travel.
Name corrections are not required:
- if only your ‘first’ given name is needed to travel (as stated in your passport). Any additional given names are not required, due to character limitations on your ticket.
- if there is an abbreviation such as MR, MRS, MISS or MSTR directly after your name. This indicates your gender, as sometimes required by the airline.
Name corrections are therefore required:
- In case of spelling mistakes on the ticket.
- If your maiden surname is shown in the MRZ barcode, but you entered your married surname.
- If you entered your nickname, but your passport name is different.
- ...and in all situations where the names do not match the MRZ barcode.
Do you think you need a name correction?
All name corrections must be requested online via MyTrips and cannot be requested by phone or e-mail (due to the risk of errors).
After submitting your request, we will check all possibilities and costs with the airline. This may take some time, as airlines carefully review all conditions. The airline may also request additional information, such as copies of passports, marriage certificates, and other official documents.
If the name correction is approved by the airline, you will receive an e-mail with a payment link for the total change fees. After payment, we will proceed with processing your request with the airline.
If your name correction request is denied by the airline, unfortunately there is nothing we can do, as this falls under the airline’s policies. If you have any complaints, please contact the airline directly. We are not a party to their conditions.
